2010 MdQI Awards of Excellence
Engineering Nomination Process

Welcome to this procedure page for submitting project nominations and the methods used for development of a short list of the projects designated for MdQI Awards. 

The Awards Process begins by State and Local Agencies and Firms submitting nominations to the MdQI Awards Committee which will forward the information to the appropriate Sponsoring Agencies. Projects will be in one or more of the following Engineering categories:

  1. Planning – Studies/Public Involvement
  2. Public Agency In-House Highway Design
  3. Public Agency In-House Structure Design
  4. Public Agency In-House Environmental Design
  5. Consultant Highway Design
  6. Consultant Structure Design
  7. Consultant Environmental Design
  8. Context Sensitive Project Development (this category requires a separate application located here)

The Sponsoring Agencies will review applications and recommend nominations to the MdQI Awards Committee.  The minimum criteria that must be met before the Awards Committee will accept a nomination are:

  1. Nomination must be approved by a MdQI Sponsoring Agency
  2. An Engineering Project must have construction substantially complete or accepted for maintenance between Oct. 1, 2009 and September 30, 2010.  A Planning Project which must have a Record of Decision within the same timeframe.
  3. Projects must be constructed in Maryland.

The Awards Committee will shortlist no more than three projects as finalists for each award category. Shortlisted projects will be highlighted at the 2011 MdQI Conference and winners will be announced at the MdQI Awards Banquet.  The projects selected as finalist will be evaluated for the following criteria in determining the project winner in each category:

  1. Meeting Project Milestones
  2. Meeting Project Budget
  3. Meeting DBE/MBE Goals
  4. Engineering Specific Criteria
    1. Owner Directed/Designer Changes
    2. Design Error or Omission
    3. Innovative Approaches
    4. Stakeholder Involvement

To submit a project follow the links at the bottom of this page to the project nomination form.  Complete one form for each project/category group.  Forward completed forms to the Awards Committee by email, or you may submit a hardcopy of the form by mail, or use direct delivery.  The Awards Committee will send data to the appropriate Sponsoring Agency.

A project may be nominated in more than one category, but a separate form must be completed for each category.

The nomination form should be submitted to the Awards Committee by September 30, 2010.  The Sponsoring Agency will review and, if accepted, return the nomination to the MdQI Awards Committee by October 21, 2010.  The Award presentation will be at the 2011 MdQI Conference.
