About Us
The Maryland Association of Engineers, an organization consisting of Engineers,Contractors, Equipment and Material Suppliers, State, Municipal and County Officials and Employees was founded in 1929 by Mr. P.Y.K. Howat.
The association at that time had a membership of 40 with the late Colonel Henry G. Perring, Consulting Engineer in the City of Baltimore as its first president. The organization was incorporated under the laws of the State of Maryland on the 8th day of February, 1934, and at the present time has a membership of approximately 650.
THE AIMS AND PURPOSES OF MAE
- To form a common meeting ground for Engineers, Architects, Contractors and Material Suppliers, resident in or transacting business or professional work in the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia.
- To provide a medium for the interchange of technical and business information tending to the broadening of the knowledge of its members and increasing their worth to themselves and the community.
- To mutually aid through proper cooperation, the betterment of the financial, professional and social status of its members.
- To provide a just and fair code of ethical and business practices; to govern the dealings of the Engineers living in or transacting business in the State of Maryland, among themselves and to the Public; and to discourage improper practices.
- To aid in the promulgation of proper laws and the proper administration.
- To encourage and promote the development of industrial and civic betterment and improvements.
- To improve the conditions surrounding or growing out of the practice of Engineering and to secure and obtain such advantages as may be of benefit to the Association and the Public. In general, to promote the comfort, convenience and well-being of its members.
- The Association is strictly non-political and non-sectarian.
