Ladies and Gentlemen of the Maryland Association of Engineers;

It is an honor to serve as your President for the 2008-2009 year.  With the realization that my Board of Directors and distinguished Past Presidents will assist me in performing my duties, I look forward to a year of continuing growth for this organization.  With the help of dedicated members we will continue to expand membership and the Dick Trainor Scholarship fund will continue to increase.  This fund will assist deserving young students to pursue careers in engineering.  We count on these young people to fill the needs of the profession which will benefit the State of Maryland through the Engineering Community.

This year we awarded two Scholarships of $5,000.00 each to promising young students selected by the respective High School Administration.  The MAE Board of Directors honors members of the Engineering Community who have served the profession honorably for many years.  The Scholarship Committee then contacts the high school or college which the honoree attended or selects.  The appropriate school is contacted and asked to select a deserving student who has been a Maryland resident for at least 5 years, is an exemplary student, and is in need of financial assistance to pursue a career in the engineering profession.  This is the prime goal of this organization and with your help and your participation in our many events, the Scholarship Fund will continue to grow and we will be able to increase the number of scholarships awarded and/or the size of the award.  No member of the MAE has input into the selection of the students to receive these grants.

As my term in office begins, I look forward to meeting all of the members of MAE at our many events throughout the year.  These are designed to provide a venue for people active in all phases of the engineering field; Consultants, Contractors, Suppliers, and Public Agencies to exchange ideas while enjoying fellowship in a pleasant atmosphere.  I ask that you encourage your friends and colleagues to join our organization and participate in our many social functions, all of which support the Scholarship Fund.

Very Truly Yours,

Keith A. Duerling, P.E.

President
